Vanuatu
Vanuatu is a lower-middle-income country where both average life expectancy and the economy have been on upward trends. With nearly 300,000 citizens, Vanuatu is one of the more populous island countries in the South Pacific Ocean and among the world’s most vulnerable countries to natural hazards. Comprising more than 80 islands located on the earthquake-prone Pacific Ring of Fire, Vanuatu experiences frequent volcanic eruptions, cyclones, earthquakes, tsunamis, storm surges, coastal flooding, and landslides. In addition, the country is already feeling the effects of climate change. Sea-level rise and weather events of increasing intensity have led to changes in agricultural productivity and water availability.
