Nepal is undergoing a historic transition toward a federal and secular republic, which represents a window of opportunity for the country to reduce poverty. A catastrophic earthquake in 2015 demonstrated Nepal’s high risk to natural hazards, with education among the sectors most affected. Following the earthquake, Nepal undertook important actions to aid the recovery of the affected communities and infrastructure and to reduce risk from future earthquakes.
